Yet Another File Viewer Lite is a simple viewer for styled text documents.

Yet Another File Viewer Lite requires Mac OS 8.5 or later. If OS 8.5 is not detected when Yet Another File Viewer Lite starts up, and alert is displayed. Yet Another File Viewer Lite also requires some standard features of OS 8.5, such as the Appearance Manager and Navigation Services Manager. Again, alerts are displayed when launching Yet Another File Viewer Lite if some necessary feature isn't available.
Some third party extensions can cause compatibility problems because they don't work properly with programs that use new OS 8.5 features. For example, versions of Kaleidoscope at least through version 2.1.1 include numerous bugs that affect Yet Another File Viewer Lite. These cause problems scrolling through text or list windows and general cosmetic problems. Another example is ACTION Files which includes an option to disable Navigation Services. When this option is enabled, and Yet Another File Viewer Lite checks for the presence of Navigation Services, it receives incorrect information due to the sabotage performed by the utility, and reports it cannot run because Navigation Services isn't installed. The solution is to disable ACTION Files from being used within Yet Another File Viewer Lite, where it does no good anyway because it doesn't support Navigation Services. A preferred alternative to ACTION Files is Default Folder. Version 3.0 of Default Folder also has an option to disable Navigation Services, but this can be turned off for specific applications like Yet Another File Viewer Lite that require Navigation Services. Better yet, Default Folder actually supports Navigation Services, and so is very useful for modern programs that use Navigation Services instead of the obsolete Standard File.
Yet Another File Viewer Lite also needs Internet Config 2.0 or later to be fully functional. Internet Config is used to determine what constitutes a command-clickable URL in the program's text windows and what helper program to use to open the URL. A substantially improved and much more powerful version, Yet Another File Viewer, is available as a shareware application. Yet Another File Viewer is a viewer for text and image files. It can open and view PICT, JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, and BMP image files. It can open and play QuickTime, MPEG, and AVI movie files. Using QuickTime 4 it can also play MP3 files. It can open and edit styled text documents. It can display text data in a list format that is easily searched and sorted. The 3.0 version, currently only available via email to registered owners, can also create catalog files of images and movies that are easily searched and sorted and can catalog a large number of such files using very little RAM. Yet Another File Viewer is available at the Info-Mac Archives and other Mac archive sites.
Text editing code using the WASTE text engine is based on code by Marco Piovanelli and Dan Crevier. The regular expression code is a modified version of code by Henry Spenser. Some utility routines are heavily modified versions of code by John Norstad.
